SICK THREE
This lower competition consists of performing the most difficult combination of 3 consecutive moves in a combo.
This year, the event was dominated by Hispanic athletes: Jairo (Mexico) won the Sick Three ahead of the Argentinan freestyler, Ignachav.
Sergio Sanchez (Spain) finished third.

The Mexican freestyler performed an unusual beck combination which allows a trick to be extended and made more complex. His combo was the following one : Alt Beck Palle Move - Beck Palle Move - Skatw.
Meanwhile, Igna executed a more classical combination : Patw (out) - abbas - Apatw (in). The same one as last year, which he was just inches away from landing !
HAVE JAIRO REALLY DESERVED THE WIN ?
A minor controversy arose following this result, especially from the Spanish camp, who felt that the Argentinian should have won with his combo. Some even ironically commented "This isn't the Sick Five," implying that Jairo's combo was too "unusual" to win the competition.
Indeed, "beck"-based combinations are highly technical but difficult to compare to more classical combinations. To my knowledge, the judges didn't provide any explanation for the result (in any case, judges now give individual scores to each combo), but the weak point of Ignachav's combo is the second move, which is a basic connecting move (abbas). It allows for a good recovery from the first move to prepare for the third. The strong point, however, is that it involves a triple circumnavigation performed with both feet: patw (out) then apatw (in). It's a rare thing to do such a technical ambidextrous combo.
In my humble opinion, if Jairo's combination had an extra difficulty (for ex: using more weak foot or beck skatw at the end) I would understand the victory. However, as things stand, I think it is very close with maybe a slight advantage for Igna. It would be interesting to see the details of judges' marks.
